February 2023: Broadening Our CMAA Communities

Hello CMAA! I hope to see many of you at the World Conference and Club Business Expo later this month. We have excellent registration numbers that have exceeded our member and supplier expectations. To accommodate everyone, we added two additional hotels for attendees, and we will be running a daily shuttle to/from those satellite properties. I suspect this may be a post-COVID anomaly as last year some members and suppliers were still uncomfortable with travel and vaccine requirements. I am so glad those days are behind us.

I am excited for the World Conference, and I look forward to sharing about CMAA during the Opening Business session. One area I will be touching on and want to use this space to explain more about is the launch of CMAA’s subscriber communities. Our first two communities are the Club Wellness Community (CWC) and the Communications Community. The CWC will replace – the Club Spa & Fitness Association (CSFA) and expand the reach to all CMAA members, as well as your club wellness and fitness professionals. Similarly, the Communications Community will broaden the connection of club communications professionals.

The goal of a CMAA Community parallels CMAA. Communities will provide club professionals with the opportunities to connect, learn, and engage with other individuals who are involved and interested in various segments of club management. Through ongoing virtual education, including webinars and topic-based series, an annual Summit, an interactive online community through CMAA Connect, digital access to Club Management magazine, and community-specific research, CMAA Communities will be the hub for all club professionals invested in particular aspects of club management.

Your CMAA membership includes a subscription to all CMAA Communities – CMAA members simply have to opt in to access the resources and benefits. Your wellness and communications professionals can also subscribe and benefit from this wealth of resources. For 2023, a Community subscription will be $100 (January to October). CMAA will then offer an annual subscription for $150 beginning on November 1, 2023, which mirrors CMAA’s membership year. Additionally, subscribers can help guide their community’s focus through volunteer participation on advisory committees.

I am excited about this launch. CMAA has been doing more over the past few years to support some critical club professionals – membership/marketing, communications, chefs, and wellness. We feel this support helps your club as well as the CMAA membership. The launch of the Club Wellness Community and Communications Community creates a model for CMAA to support these professionals with even more going forward in a membership-like environment. We will do this while providing access to CMAA members who decide to opt-in, so for those smaller clubs that may have one manager who does it all, you can get full access to everything. I think the economics of subscribing some of your key staff at a price of $150 annually creates a compelling value proposition for you to consider as CMAA looks to add even more communities in the future. I hope you will consider it.

After eight years of writing a monthly member blog, we’ve decided to shake things up a bit! Look for a refresh of my monthly member message in various formats, not just as a written blog. Stay tuned for more soon.
