February 2022: Looking Back by the Numbers

Numbers are an arithmetical value, expressed by a word, symbol, or figure, representing a particular quantity and used in counting and making calculations and for showing order in a series or for identification. February is when CMAA releases its annual report, audit, and I share an update in my State of the Association address at World Conference. So let me use numbers to share our journey over the past year. Check out CMAA’s Annual Report for even more details on 2021.

924 – The number of new professional members who joined CMAA in 2021.

Kudos to all involved, especially recruiting efforts within CMAA Chapters! We also went live with an easy one-stop joining process for CMAA Chapter and National that I am sure played a significant role as well.

6,713 – The number of CMAA members at the end of the year.

That membership number is just a couple of dozen shy of our largest membership number over the past decade.

20 – The percentage increase over the last nine years of CMAA Professional members.

During this time, our membership has diverged between those who serve as the GM/COO position and all other management roles. CMAA’s Young Professionals (YoPro), Women in Club Management, and other CMAA specialized membership communities have helped broaden our focus to all those in club management who want to grow their leadership skills, helping to fuel CMAA’s rising Professional membership numbers over the past decade.

713 – The number of club management professionals who attended Business Management Institute (BMI) programs this past year.

CMAA was pleased to bestow 58 new CCMs and 10 new CCEs this past pandemic year. I applaud each of the 713 individuals who worked with us in various pandemic classroom configurations to attend BMIs.

100,000 – The number of CMAA website page views in January.

Have you checked out CMAA’s new website? It has been a multi-year goal to update our website and the new look was launched in early January. Many members have commented about how clean it looks, its intuitive layout, and how it is much easier to find where pertinent information resides.

$670,652 – The amount of money CMAA accepted from the United States Federal Government in pandemic support (through the Employee Retention Tax Credit and Paycheck Protection Program).

This support has helped to ensure CMAA has maintained a positive bottom line every year since 2015, but also helped to ensure your membership experience was not impacted during the pandemic. At present, we have one open staff position and will then be back to pre-pandemic staffing.

15,982The number of followers of CMAA on LinkedIn.

We also have thousands on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. If you want instant CMAA news and information, these mediums are the place to go.

13,518 – The number of user sign-ins on the Club Resource Center platform by club staff to access 160+ on-demand training and education courses.

Last year, 18,904 training courses were accessed by all clubs utilizing the platform. Access more information and learn about the benefits of the Club Resource Center.

30 - The number of companies that are part of CMAA’s Partnership Network.

We truly appreciate their support of our Association and ask every CMAA member club to consider these companies when evaluating future services and purchases.

$476,028 – The dollar amount of contributions to The Club Foundation this past year.

We appreciate all these donors and the donations made to support scholarships and grants for the club management profession and industry. Each of you are truly paying it forward.

120 – The number of in-person attendees at the Club Spa & Fitness Association Annual Conference this past summer.

If your wellness or fitness team is not involved with CSFA they really must consider it. Check out CSFA. For $325 annually, the payback in education and information for CSFA members is very quick.

Despite the pandemic, CMAA moved forward and so did our members. While none of us asked for the pandemic to continue this past year, I am proud of each of you, the CMAA National Headquarters team, and our CMAA Chapters. We all take pride in a year of positives in a challenging environment. Thank you for your membership and for your trust.
